Curtain poles
Curtain poles are a visible feature above the window, finished with decorative ends called finials.

Curtain tracks
Curtain tracks are slimmer rails, often hidden behind the curtain heading or a pelmet.

- Can be corded or motorised
Which should you choose?
- Bay windows: A track is usually the simpler, neater option.
- Heavy, interlined curtains: A strong track or robust pole with centre brackets.
- Statement look: A pole with finials that match your handles or light fittings.
- Ceiling fixing: Tracks can be fixed to the ceiling for floor-to-ceiling curtains.
Heading styles
Your curtain heading needs to match. Eyelet curtains need a pole. Pencil pleat and pinch pleat curtains work on either. Wave headings need a compatible track for their even, rippled folds.
Measuring tips
Extend your pole or track 15 to 20cm beyond each side of the window so the curtains can open fully without blocking light. Mount it well above the frame to make the window look taller. If you're unsure, we measure for free.

A track fixed close to the wall or ceiling, with curtains that overlap in the middle, reduces draughts around the top of the window.
